About The Treatment

Eye Surgery in India

Eye surgery may be performed for a host of vision-related problems by an ophthalmologist and may require various different procedures depending on the need of the patient. Also known as ocular surgery, eye surgery is one of the most performed surgeries in medical sciences.

Eye surgery in India is a quick, dependable and low-cost affair, and availability of contemporary technologies, such as a laser, LASIK, and PRK makes India one of the most visited health tourism destination in the world.

What is Eye Surgery?

All different types of surgeries performed on eyes to treat vision problems are cumulatively called eye or ocular surgery. Depending on the type of diseases, eye surgeries may be broadly divided into the following categories:

Cataract Surgery: Cataract is a condition that affects both eyes and occurs more in people aged over 60. Cataract surgery is one of the most successful and safest surgeries that take only about half an hour and no overnight stay is required in hospitals.

Corrective Surgery: Very popular options, PRK (Photorefractive keratectomy) for those having thin corneas and LASIK (laser-assisted in Situ Keratomileusis) for those having the issue of corneal tissue fall under this category. Hyperopia, Astigmatism, and Myopia can be treated with corrective surgeries without having to use corrective lenses.

Orbital Surgery: Often opted for enucleation, evisceration and anophthalmia conditions, orbital surgeries are helpful in case of eye tumors. Silicone or bioceramic and tissue expander implants are placed in the eyes in this form of surgery.

Glaucoma Surgery: In cases of vision loss and increasing intraocular pressure due to glaucoma, this low-risk surgery is considered very helpful. There are conventional and Laser options for performing glaucoma surgeries.

Lid Repair Surgeries: Droopy eyelids, also known as ptosis, are treated with lid repair surgery. Fasanella-Servat, Frontalis suspension, Muller’s muscle-conjunctival resection and Blepharoplasty are the various types of ptosis surgery.

Squint Eye: Squint eye surgeries are performed when both eyes point and focus toward different directions. Convergent, divergent and vertical squints are treated with this surgery.

Presbyopia: Presbyopia is often related to atrophy of the muscles responsible for controlling the lens or the development of the lens on the eye. Presbyopia treatment involves creating ‘monovision’ with a LASIK surgery option.

Refractive Surgery: Hyperopia (farsightedness), myopia (nearsightedness) and astigmatism are often treated with refractive surgery. It may involve creating a dome on eye-front or reshaping the cornea.

Eye Cancer: Eye cancer leads to the formation of multiple tumors in and around the eyes. The surgeries are often aimed to remove the tumors and stop the growth of cancerous cell-multiplication.
