The name is so scary and difficult, right? Well, it is a disorder where blood do not clot normally and can lead to excessive bleeding and bruising. The cause of this disorder is low level of thrombocytes or platelets. This disorder is also known as immune thrombocytopenic purpura. See, the platelets formed in bone marrow help in the stoppage of bleeding by forming a clot by clumping together and that leads to the sealing of cuts or tears in blood vessels. In this disorder, enough platelets are not present and clotting process is very slow and might result in internal bleeding.
Now, the symptoms for this disorder includes bruising easily, spontaneous nosebleeds, blood in urine or stool, pinpoint sized petechiae, profuse bleeding during surgery, prolonged bleeding from cuts, abnormally heavy menstruation and bleeding from gums.
After knowing about the problem and its symptoms, the next important thing is treatment. For the treatment of ITP, the medications like corticosteroids, Thrombopoietin Receptor Agonists, Intravenous Immune Globulin, Immunosuppresants (like azathioprine, rituximab, cyclophosphamide), antibiotics and experimental drugs can be used. The other options of treatment can be surgery, lifestyle changes and emergency treatment. So, the treatment for the disorder is there but for treating it, you have to get it diagnosed. If you feel symptoms showing up, consult a doctor and get it checked.
