Have you ever got panicked? Most of you must be aware of what a panic is. Most of the times in our lives, we come across the situations which leave us panic stricken. Do you know there is also a disorder associated with panic? This disorder is known as panic disorder. The person suffering from this disorder becomes anxious and get recurrent unexpected panic attacks.
The person suffering from panic attacks experience intense fear, sweating, shaking, shortness of breath, numbness or feeling that something really bad is going to happen. Till now the cause of panic disorders is unknown. It runs in families, it is genetic. The common symptom of this is anxiety. The attack are usually of 1 to 5 minutes but can be as long as 20 minutes up to an hour. The person can also have rapid heart rate, perspiration, dyspnea. Person can also feel dizzy. He/she may tremble with uncontrollable fear. They can lose control and go crazy. There is a sensation of choking, paralysis, chest pain, nausea, chills or hot flashes. And in some cases, a person can be crying.
Smoking tobacco also increases the risk of panic disorders. 30% of the people suffering from this disorder are alcoholic, and 17% use other harmful drugs. There are two criteria for diagnostics of panic disorders and they are DSM-IV-TR criteria and ICD-10 criteria. It is hard to handle a person who suffers from this disorder. This can be successfully treated in some cases but there is no known cure. It can be treated sometimes with coouncelling and some light medications.
